WHAT YOUR GIFT CAN DO!

Since Fair Children Youth Foundation was established in 2003, we have helped many thousands of children and women to rebuild their lives. Already we have:
  • increased community awareness of human rights and especially the rights of children and women
  • Raised community and caretaker awareness of the special needs of deaf children
  • Provided emergency food, shelter, health care and health insurance to orphans, widows and people living with HIV/Aids
  • Given trauma counseling, food security, nutrition & hygiene, reproductive health, HIV/Aids awareness programs
  • Created schooling for pre-school and nursery children aged 3-6
  • Created high quality primary education taught in English for 7-15 year olds
  • Provided literacy education classes to children, youth and adults
  • Established special needs education and training for deaf children and caretakers of the deaf
  • Trained and supported local community volunteers to mentor child-headed households
  • Involved and organized marginalized groups, including individuals and families living with HIV/Aids
  • Improved access to basic services in the community for vulnerable children and adults
  • Introduced vocational training and income generating activities for youth and women
  • Organized trade associations and women cooperatives
  • Secured micro-loan funds for women's associations
  • Created access to radio information, education and entertainment for isolated children and adults
We are grateful to all our generous individual and organizational donors who have supported us in our achievements. And there is so much more to do! Thousands of vulnerable children and women in Musanze District still need our support NOW to access basic resources of food security, health-care, education/training, income generating opportunities and self-help organizing. All these resources can enable them to work their own way out of extreme poverty with dignity and grace

We welcome and need your financial support. No donation is too small - or too large! And 100% of your gift received by us will go to support the work of the Foundation, which is fully recognized as a non-profit organization and authorized by the Rwanda government at national, district, sector and cell level

Priorities for 2012:

1    In terms of capital expenditure we have a continuing need to build more classrooms at both the Deaf Children Center and Wisdom School, to accommodate increasing numbers of registered students for 2012.
Our dormitory facilities need extension at both sites, and additional beds and mattresses are needed

2    We have a goal to equip and run a fully functioning communications and computer center for students, orphans, child-headed households, single mothers and widows. The estimated cost for this is in the region of $20,000. If you would like to contribute to this project or know of possible grant sources for such a major undertaking, please write to us at fairchildren@mac.com

3    Transport is vital to enable staff and volunteers to move easily between the several urban and rural sites where FCYF activities are located. A transport fund also supports the running of the school bus which takes children on educational school trips. An emergency transport fund ensures that sick and injured children can be taken quickly from rural homes or the Nyange deaf residential center to the health center in Musanze Town. Cost runs at about $5,000 per year

4    Support to children, youth and women:
  • $800 - provides a full boarding place for a year for an orphan or a hearing-impaired child who is ready for mainstream education, enabling them to attend the #1 primary school in Musanze District
  • $325 - pays one year vocational training fees for an orphan head of household
  • $170 buys a knitting machine for the training center for use in training and also by graduates to fulfill orders and earn income
  • $130 - will enable graduates from the Child-Headed Household tailoring class to buy a sewing machine and establish their business
  • $100 - buys materials for orphaned trainees as well as for the 2010 and 2011 graduates' cooperative
  • $60 - buys a desk for a new Wisdom Primary School classroom due to open in 2012
  • $50 enables a child-headed household to build a shelter and buy a goat
  • $20 buys school materials of paper and pencils for one primary school child for a year
  • $5 buys counseling and transport to health center for testing for a child at risk of having contracted Aids
  • $3.75 buys one year's health insurance for an orphan
