VOLUNTEER!

Are you eager to make a real and immediate difference in the lives of Rwandan children, youth and women urgently needing education, training, and practical support to rebuild their lives?

Are you an adaptable self-starter with specific skills and life experiences that you are willing and able to share?

Are you ready to come in an attitude of humility and openness to learn from others who may have many lessons to teach you?

If so, FCYF can offer you great opportunities to make a contribution in Musanze and enjoy the experience of a lifetime

Volunteers are needed to:
  • Teach English at pre- and elementary school level and offer basic literacy classes in English to older youth and women
  • Teach basic computer use and/ or arts and crafts
  • Supervise sporting activities and debating
  • Work alongside deaf children
  • Provide companionship and caring psychosocial support to children and women
  • Offer practical training in vocational skills, such as masonry, carpentry, tailoring, hairdressing, computer and business skills

If you enjoy manual work, you'll also find opportunities to get involved in building, renovation, gardening and  agricultural activities at our centers in Kigali and Nyange

"I think one of the most beneficial ways I contributed to FCYF, because of my short time there, was through making relationships with many different people. While I was able to assist with specific things, such as marking papers, helping with children, and helping to lead a teacher workshop at Wisdom, I believe the relationships I built will be the longest lasting"

Musanze is two hours by bus from the capital, Kigali, at the gateway to the beautiful Parc National des Volcans, a region of outstanding natural beauty, which became famous internationally during the 20th century as a result of the groundbreaking animal conservation work of Dian Fossey and colleagues

Since peace was restored, mountain gorillas have once again become a magnet for international visitors, eager to visit these magnificent animals in their indigenous environment

Local tourism opportunities include guided treks to mountain gorilla reserves, bird watching (178 species), other wild life including golden monkey, elephant, buffalo, and duikers, lava flow caves, lakes, hot springs and exploring the mighty volcanic Virunga Mountains themselves

There are also long distance inter-country bus services if volunteers wish to explore the East and Central African region more widely before or after their placement in Musanze
